For Teachers
Exploring Leadership for Teachers
The Exploring Leadership for Teachers Program is a unique institute designed specifically for teachers at St. Mark’s School of Texas, a boys college preparatory school located in Dallas, Texas. First introduced for the summer of 2008, the program is growing to include more teachers in 2009. Faculty from St. Mark’s travel to Richmond for an intensive three-day institute to study leadership as it is taught at the Jepson School of Leadership Studies. In an intimate setting, small groups of teachers work directly with professionals in the field of leadership studies and explore such topics as: What is Leadership? Followership, Diversity and Inclusiveness; Service and Citizen Leadership; Ethics; and Authentic Leadership. Teachers look at leadership through both historical and contemporary lenses and identify how it can be fused into the St. Mark’s curriculum as well as practiced by faculty and students in the school and in their communities.
Lead I
Lead I is a collaboration between the Center and the Chesterfield County Public Schools office of professional development. The goal of the program is to develop a solid foundation in leadership studies and to provide opportunities for teachers and staff members to begin to examine their own conceptions of and practices in leadership. The three-day institute is modeled after the Foundations of Leadership course at the Jepson School of Leadership Studies. The two essential learning objectives for Lead I participants are recognizing the various elements of leadership and the process of leadership and then developing a solid foundation upon which they can build a more meaningful understanding of leadership in an educational context.
