Who Should Attend?
This two and one half day program, hosted on the beautiful
University of Richmond campus, is for aspiring leaders who
wish to advance their careers in Virginia independent schools.
Those leaders include but are
not limited to division directors, deans, administrators,
and teachers.
The program blends the core leadership
component, as taught by the expert professors at the Jepson
School of Leadership Studies, with the highly experienced
instruction of authorities from VAIS independent schools
from around the Commonwealth in the fields of development,
admission, governance, finance, and academic leadership.
What are the Admission
Requirements?
Applicants must hold, at a minimum, a bachelor’s degree
from a regionally accredited college or university. Applicants
must receive the endorsement (in the form of a signature
on the application) of the head of school in order to be
considered for admission.
What Makes This Program Distinctive?
- VAIS experts are colleagues in Virginia
independent schools who have many years of experience
in various key fields of independent school leadership
and who can speak to the unique perspectives in the Commonwealth.
- ELI has been developed in close coordination
with the Center for Leadership in Education. The Center
for Leadership in Education is a newly established collaboration
between the University of Richmond’s Jepson
School of Leadership Studies and the School
of Continuing Studies. The mission of the Center for
Leadership in Education is to infuse leadership studies
across the K-12 curriculum.
- The project and mentoring aspects
of the program make it distinctive from other leadership
programs in that each participant is required to complete
a project that will benefit his/her school.
- The unique core components of the
Emerging Leadership Institute (ELI) include but are not
limited to: thoughtful discussion of leadership concepts;
leadership assessment; intimate group gatherings for in-depth
discussion; long term oversight of participants and projects
by seasoned mentors; and regional meeting opportunities.
- Each participant will receive VAIS
and University of Richmond recognition on completion of
the program.
